چکیده
The paper reports an experimental study of the adhesive contact between liquid-bridged hydrogel microparticles. A novel nanomechanical tester has been developed to measure both force-approach curves at sub-micro resolutions as well side-view images two agarose spheres during pull-off. Meanwhile, JKR theory extended quantify work adhesion solid-liquid-vapor interface and Young’s modulus particles based on measured parameters. Our research findings show is independent separation speed and, by contrast, exhibits a linear increase. also demonstrates that reconciles with generalized Hertz theory, which takes capillary force into account for soft microspheres in relationship equal twice surface tension water. These new are essential developing techniques quantitatively characterize particulate materials potentially improve material performance their applications.

Neutrophil adhesive contact dependence on impingement force.
Neutrophil capture and recruitment from the circulation requires the formation of specific receptor/ligand bonds under hydrodynamic forces. In the present study we examine bond formation between beta2-integrins on neutrophils and immobilized ICAM-1 while using micropipettes to control the force of contact between the cell and substrate. Magnesium was used to induce the high affinity conformatio...
متن کاملCapillary pressure and contact line force on a soft solid.
The surface free energy, or surface tension, of a liquid interface gives rise to a pressure jump when the interface is curved. Here we show that a similar capillary pressure arises at the interface of soft solids. We present experimental evidence that immersion of a thin elastomeric wire into a liquid induces a substantial elastic compression due to the solid capillary pressure at the bottom. W...
متن کاملAdhesive contact in filaments
This paper studies the elastic contact in filaments induced by surface adhesion, which plays an important role in the mechanical response of fibrous materials (e.g., fiber friction, sliding, compression hysteresis, etc.). During the process, a simple 3D elastic contact model was proposed. The filaments were assumed to be uniform, smooth elastic cylinders, and the adhesive force between filament...

Hydrogels are finding increased clinical utility as advances continue to exploit their favorable material properties. Hydrogels can be adapted for many applications, including surface coatings and drug delivery. Anti-infectious surfaces and delivery systems that actively destroy invading organisms are alternative ways to exploit the favorable material properties offered by hydrogels. Sterilizat...
متن کاملEnzymatically Degradable Mussel-Inspired Adhesive Hydrogel
Mussel-inspired adhesive hydrogels represent innovative candidate medical sealants or glues. In the present work, we describe an enzyme-degradable mussel-inspired adhesive hydrogel formulation, achieved by incorporating minimal elastase substrate peptide Ala-Ala into the branched poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) macromonomer structure. The system takes advantage of neutrophil elastase expression upr...
